BYU's football team, which was winless thus far this season and had lost five straight games dating back to the tail end of the 1990 campaign, snapped its losing spell with a 21-7 Western Athletic Conference victory over the Air Force Academy.
After three straight non-league losses to Top 25 members Florida State, UCLA and Penn State, the Cougars got 340 yards passing and two touchdown tosses from reigning Heisman Trophy winner Ty Detmer to help knock off the previously unbeaten Falcons.
"I told the players last night that this could be one of the most important games in a long time," BYU coach LaVell Edwards said following his team's much-needed victory at Cougar Stadium. "It was a big one for us."

and so you are bringing this up because????? should this article have run last year at this time?
Not sure what the point of this is other than to remind us that it has ALWAYS been this way with BYU football. BYU has rarely scored a win against quality competition. Nice guys, I love 'em (great firesides!) but they do not play with the heart of More..
