Summary

Real Salt Lake vs. Sporting Kansas City

More Coverage
  • RSL wins 4th straight, in 3rd place

  • MLS roundup

  • RSL notebook: Beckerman is yellow

Alvaro Saborio's improving form slipped a little Saturday night as he struggled with Sporting KC's offside trap. His touch was off and his normally strong play with his back to the goal was not as good as it's been. The better midfield play in the second half gave him better opportunities where he was clearly better, especially in the 80th minute when he sent a rocket volley right into the hands of KC goalie Jimmy Nielsen. Grade: B-

Fabian Espindola wasn't able to get too involved in the first half due to the poor play out of the backline but once the game settled down in the second half he sucked the wind out of Sporting KC's defensive line with speedy run after speedy run. Grade: A-

Ned Grabavoy seemed to touch off a powder keg when he came off the bench for a struggling Luis Gil in the 58th minute. His energy and fresh legs turned the tide in the midfield and gave Real Salt Lake the possession advantage for the rest of the game. Grade: A

Jean Alexandre came on in the 89th minute for a clearly winded Fabian Espindola. He didn't play enough for a grade. Grade: Incomplete

While Schuler did well on the defensive end, his inability to get up field and involved in the offense allowed SKC to keep more players forward. He improved a bit in the second half.

schuler and russell got destroyed on the wings and didn't contribute much in the way of offense. way too high grades for both of them.

borchers goal was sweet but his D was a bit sloppy--like the header he badly misjudged. not an A More..
