Flora D. Stam 1918 ~ 2011

Our dear mother, Flora Denney Stam passed away August 23, 2011 at Sandy Health and Rehab. As much as we will miss her we know there was great rejoicing as she rejoined her beloved sweetheart, Myron E. Stam, Sr. who preceded her in death on July 13, 1999.She was born January 15th, 1918 to Lester Moore Denney and Zella May Maddox in Paradise, Utah, the eldest of eight children, four brothers and three sisters. Flora was raised on a farm in Sandy, Utah where she learned the value of hard work, learning to care for and harvest a variety of fruit, berries and vegetables. She had many responsibilities on the farm and in their home. She attended Jordan High School and maintained friendships with fellow students throughout the years. Following high school she moved to Salt Lake to work for a wealthy family on South Temple Street. There she honed her culinary and housekeeping skills. On her off hours, she like going to antique stores. Flora met the love of her life at the 27th Ward, Ensign Stake. She and Myron were married by bishop Joel Richards June 25th 1936 in a double ceremony with their best friends Richard Ray and Donna Potter. They were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, June 14th 1965. Four children were born to Myron and Flora: Myron E. (Gene) Stam, Jr.; Patricia (Larry) Bradshaw; Dianne Tucker, and Marsha (Mark) Ford. She loved and was very proud of her children. We love you Mom! Mom's beautiful garden gave her great pleasure. She could raise any kind of flower, and roses were her favorite. Her fine crocheting was art at its finest and graced the tables of many friends and family. It amazed us that she could sit still long enough to create such beauty and we prize those pieces we have framed. She was very proud of her volunteer service at Primary Children's Hospital from 1960 to 1977. Flora served six years as chairman and buyer for the auxiliary gift shop and earned her 4500 hour service pin. Mom had great faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ and was a faithful member of the church. She served in the primary, Sunday school, and Relief Society. She loved being a visiting teacher. As she became more homebound her calling was to phone each Relief Society sister and sing happy birthday to them. Flora was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Rulon, Duane, Robert, and Floyd; sisters, Evelyn Hughes, Lenna Denney and Ruth Denney; and sweet daughter-in-law, Royanne George Stam. She is survived by her children and their spouses; 15 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Richard V. (Muriel) Stam, and many nieces and nephews. She treasured her relationship with her Maddox and Denney cousins, aunts and uncles. Flora's children appreciate the kind and caring staff who attended her at Sandy Health and Rehab. Funeral services will be held on Monday August 29th, at 11:00 a.m. at the Murray First Ward Chapel, 363 E. Vine Street. A viewing will be held Sunday evening from 5:00 7:00 pm at Jenkins Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street in Murray Utah, and on Monday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the Murray First Ward.
