Utah boys lacrosse team heads to Nationals

ORLANDO, Fla. — Twenty-three local lacrosse players are in Florida to compete in the U.S. Lacrosse U15 National Championship at the ESPN Wide World of Sports starting Friday and going through Sunday.

The Utah team was selected by the Utah Lacrosse Association and will compete against other all-star teams from across the country.

"It's a great opportunity for Utah Lacrosse to be on the national stage," said coach Dave Brattin. "There are 27 teams in our bracket. The kids will learn they can play with these other kids."

More than 100 athletes tried out for the team, and the final 24 were selected by a committee. The teens on the roster represent 11 different high schools. Utah sent its first lacrosse all-star team to this tournament last season.

THE PLAYERS WHO MAKE UP THE UTAH ALL-STAR TEAM ARE: Kolton Atkinson, Park City; Mason Barnhill, Alta; Brody Bolerjack, Brighton; Zachary Burbidge, Pleasant Grove; Luke Fairman, Brighton; Ryan Green, West Jordan; Devin Henson, Orem; Brock Jeppeson, Brighton; Hunter Judd, Brighton; Ian Kadish, Skyline; Iszac Lambourne, Alta; Logan Lund, Brighton; Quinton Mathie, Brighton; Joshua McNall, Alta; Garrett Michaeli, Alta; Cole Parkinson, Alta; Braden Pelly, Judge; Bailey Pope, Brighton; Samuel Pugh, Waterford; Connor Pyle, Alta; Benjamin Richard, Herriman; Parker Rose, Davis; Ashton Schmidt, Brighton; Colby Smith, Alta.

The coaches for the squad include Brattin, who coaches Waterford's club team and Brighton head coach Jay Fairman. Lacrosse is a club sport in Utah.
