Utah Marshalls walk off to Gates Field World Series final

KEARNS — The Utah Marshalls advanced to the Gates Field World Series championship game in dramatic fashion on Saturday night.

Pine View product Cole Wilstead hit a walk-off two-out single in the ninth to lift the Marshalls to a 2-1 win over the Utah Bucks. The Marshalls advance to play the Austin Wings in the championship game today at 4 p.m.

Wilstead had two doubles for the Marshalls, and Kolton Mahoney was the winning pitcher. Yuto Kata and Colton Barkdull each doubled for the Bucks.

UTAH BUCKS 3, ALBUQUERQUE 2: The Bucks prevailed by scoring all of their runs in the ninth inning earlier on Saturday. Dallas Carroll had three hits for Utah, and Viewmont High product Justin Rupe was the winning pitcher.

Palmer Page doubled for the Bucks. Kayden Porter, the Deseret News' 2011 Mr. Baseball award winner, was the losing pitcher for Albuquerque.

AUSTIN WINGS 6, DBAT MUSTANGS 3: Collin Shaw had three hits, including a double, and two RBIs to lead the Wings. Parker French and Miles Holcomb doubled for Austin, and Eric Hester was the winning pitcher.

AUSTIN WINGS 8, CHERRY CREEK 0: Brooks Marlow dominated for the Wings as he went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a home run and five RBIs to put Austin in today's championship game.

SO CAL RENEGADES 7, DANVILLE HOOTS 1: Tyler Alamo had two hits, including a double, and drove in a run for the Renegades. Kevin Ginkel was the winning pitcher, while Mitch Esser doubled for So Cal.
