Rex Ward Pettingill 1923 ~ 2011

LAYTON - Rex Ward Pettingill, 88, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2011 of causes incident to age. He was born January 28, 1923 in Fairfield, Idaho to Elihu Benjamin Pettingill and Wanda LaPrial Ward. Rex was raised in Willard, Utah and graduated from Box Elder High School where he excelled as a trombone player in the school band. Rex married Marcella Johnson of Brigham City, Utah on June 29, 1942, in the Salt Lake Temple. They were blessed with five wonderful children, Dennis, Kenneth, Bruce, Diane and Curtis. Rex was a World War II Veteran serving in England as an aircraft mechanic. After the war, he returned home to work at Hill Air Force Base for over 30 years, retiring as Chief of Production Control. He was a member of the LDS church and served an extraction mission to Chicago, Illinois with his wife, Marcella in 1980. Rex was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marcella, son Dennis, brothers, Floyd and Rhea, and sister Ortis. After Marcella's death in 1994, Rex married Lorraine Thomson on May 30, 1995. A very special thank you to Lorraine for taking such great care of our Dad for the past 16 years. You have been a Godsend for our family. Rex is survived by his wife Lorraine, children Kenneth (Mary) Pettingill, Bruce Pettingill, Diane (Terry) Twitchell, Curtis (Carri) Pettingill, and brother Gay (Helen) Pettingill. He dearly loved his 25 grandchildren and over 30 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family on Wednesday, July 6 from 6 - 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded.
