Obituary: CLAYTON, ELWOOD

Elwood "Woody" Melville Clayton 1934 ~ 2011

Our beloved father, husband, brother and dear friend passed away on July 2nd after a valiant and courageous 30-year battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was born on August 20, 1934 in Pleasant Grove, Utah to Ernest Clarence Clayton and Olita Melville Clayton. He was married to his eternal sweetheart Leica Fielding on September 1, 1961 in the Salt Lake Temple. They would have celebrated their 50th anniversary this year. He loved learning, reading and teaching and was rarely seen without a book in hand. He received his Bachelor's Degree at BYU and his Masters and PhD at the University of Utah. He retired from the Granite School District after a lifetime of service as Director of High School Education; Principal and Vice Principal at Cyprus High School and Kearns Junior High. He was passionate about the outdoors and loved snow skiing, waterskiing, tennis, hiking, biking, and camping in Utah's majestic mountains. He served in the U.S. Army and completed an LDS mission in the Central States. He loved people and serving his fellow man. His optimistic view on life was contagious and inspiring. He never stopped living, trying or hoping. Daddy's not finished yet, he'll continue working on his "bucket" list in heaven! He is survived by wife; Leica; Kirk (Sonia) Clayton, Craig (Betsy) Clayton; Lori Watrous, Kimberly (Mark) Jensen; Linda (Todd) Seiter 13 adoring grandchildren; sister, Connie Madsen and brothers, Richard and James Clayton.. He was preceded in death by parents; Ernest and Olita Clayton and sister Beverly Brown. A viewing will be held Monday, July 4th, 6-8 p.m. at Parkway Ward, 1208 W. 12400 So. Riverton, Utah. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, July 5th, 11:00 a.m. at the church with a viewing starting at 9:30 a.m. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 So.
