Our beloved wife, mother and grandmother returned to the loving arms of our Heavenly Father on May 26, 2011 at the Intermountain Medical Center of Polycythemia Vera and Cystic Fibrosis.Dorothy Olson Wardrop, 83, was born May 9, 1928 to Carl Leroy Olson and Verny Jansson in Murray, Utah. She married Calvin L. Wardrop, her college sweetheart on February 3, 1949 in the Salt Lake City Temple. President Harold B. Lee preformed the ceremony. She attended Granite High school and graduated from the University of Utah with a B.S. degree and a Masters degree in Education Administration. She also completed extensive studies in the doctorial degree program. She retired from the Utah State Office of Education as the Director of Curriculum, having served for 32 years in education. She had the responsibility of establishing the Core Curriculum Standards for the State of Utah in grades K-12 in all subject areas. This involved meeting with curriculum directors and superintendents in all 41 school districts in the state. Prior to that experience she worked as an education consultant for Westinghouse Learning Corporation, later as a TV instructor for KUED and BYU and as a curriculum development specialist and a teacher. Her love and testimony of the gospel is exemplified by the many callings she filled with enthusiasm and devotion. She served as Relief Society President, Primary President, Young Women Advisor, and Gospel doctrine teacher, which was her favorite calling. She and Calvin served a fulltime mission as Public Affairs missionaries in Portland, Oregon. The defining characteristic of our sweet mother was her love and devotion to her family. Her exemplary acts of service to her loved ones made each of our lives sweeter, richer and more meaningful. She devoted herself every day to what she could do for others. She was loved dearly by her family and will be missed so much! She "fought the good fight", "well done thou good and faithful servant". Mother was preceded in death by Pollyanna Wardrop (Lane), Carl Olson (brother), and Tyson Wardrop (grandson).
