Betty Lou Hansen Gardner 1930 ~ 2011

Passed away peacefully, surrounded by loving family, at her home May 12th, 2011 after a gallant nine year battle with Alzheimer's. Born Oct. 24th, 1930 in Richfield, Utah, to John Calvin and Susie Arzella Hansen. Married DelMar Gardner Christmas Day 1948. Sealed in the Jordan River Temple April 26th, 1986. Betty is survived by her husband; and her three sons, DelRay (Diana) of So. Jordan, Kirk (Chris) of Bountiful, and Russell (Tammy) of Riverton; also 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Betty was a very remarkable woman with diverse talents and interests. On the Tom Boy side she was known for chasing her sisters into the latrine with snakes and spending every available moment with her family in the outdoors. She loved to explore the back country in their jeep or 4-wheelers and would hike, hunt, and fish side by side with her husband and sons, often bagging the biggest and the most. On the feminine side, when she wasn't wearing Levis and a sweat shirt, she had movie star looks as well as an inner beauty that charmed everyone. She was very artistic and expressed herself with cake decorating, crocheting, flower arranging, and later cutting and polishing rocks for jewelry and display. She was full of life, full of fun, and full of mischief with a sly smile and a quick wit. She was also full of love and compassion and kindness, and would sacrifice anything for her family. All who knew her loved her, and all who knew her were richly blessed. We miss her, but feel of the joy on the other side of the veil as she has escaped the bonds of Alzheimer's and joined with beloved family. A viewing will be held at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 16th. Funeral will be at the South Jordan Glenmoor 6th Ward, 9850 So. Yorkshire Dr. (4200 West) at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 17th, with a viewing starting at 9:00 a.m. Interment, Richfield City Cemetery.
