Suneel Krishna Sarma 1980 ~ 2011
Suneel Krishna Sarma was born in Mansfield, Ohio to Mohan and Malathi Sarma on June 9, 1980. He grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah and graduated from Skyline High School in 1998. He went on to complete a bachelor's degree in professional chemistry at the University of Utah in 2006, a master's degree in chemistry at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 2008, and a bachelor's degree in medical and laboratory science at the University of Utah in 2010. Suneel loved science fiction and fantasy novels and was always fascinated by the possibility of other worlds. He loved to play the piano and perpetually filled his life with music - his greatest loves were the Beatles, the Grateful Dead, classical and jazz music. Always an appreciator of the people around him, he was deeply and genuinely interested in the stuff of their lives. He was a friend to anyone and had a singular capacity to make others feel understood. Many describe him as an angelic presence -- somehow unaffected by trivialities and vices. Pretension was alien to him. He faced his challenges with tenacious persistence and grace, and was an unconditional optimist. He approached the world with a most open mind. Suneel died on May 9, 2011. He was preceded in death by his adoring father Mohan Ranganathan Sarma. He is survived by his mother Malathi Sarma, and his sister Asha Sarma (Daniel Seay). Words cannot express how deeply he was loved, respected and appreciated, or how constantly he will be missed. What a magnanimous person he was. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Road Home or the 4th Street Clinic in his memory. Friends and family are invited to a celebration of his life at The Officer's Club at Fort Douglas (150 South Fort Douglas Blvd., Bldg. 649, the South Room) on Sunday, May 22, 2011 at 2:00 in the afternoon.
