Garna T. Oldham 1929 ~ 2011

Garna T. Oldham, 81, passed away peacefully at her Salt Lake City home on May 10, 2011.She was born Dec. 8, 1929 in Salina, Utah as the only child to Rulon Wayne Taylor and Edra Murphy. She attended schools in Salina and then Brigham Young University. She married Mark E. Oldham on Feb. 13, 1953 in the Manti Temple and they were blessed to be the parents of six children. Garna was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and lived her life in service and devotion to God, her country and her fellowman. She served a mission to the Northwestern States from 1950-51 for the church. Ever the optimist, she became a second mother and mentor to many through her life and always gave without any expectation. She loved her family and always had a kind word and smile for everyone. She was also an active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She is survived by her husband, Mark, and six children: Kerry M (Tammy) Oldham of Lehi; Rona (David) Bresnahan of West Jordan; Jeffrey (Collette) Oldham of St. Augustine, Fl.; Shawn (Dorothy) Oldham of Clermont Fl.; Eric (Keri D) Oldham of South Jordan and Daniel (Amparo) Oldham of Clearfield, 17 grandchildren and two great-grandsons. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 13, at noon at the Ivins Ward LDS Church at 300 East and 1850 South in Salt Lake City. A viewing will be held Thursday from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Valley View Memorial Park and Funeral Home at 4335 West and 4100 South in West Valley City and Friday prior to the service from 10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at church. Interment will follow immediately after the funeral services at Valley View Memorial Park. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Humanitarian Fund of the LDS Church.
