Dennis Raymond Nelson "Gone Camping"

On April 24, 2011, our beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully at home. Born July 19, 1921 in Murray, Utah to Alfred Ernest and Viviene LaVerne Fisher Nelson. Married his sweetheart Helen M. Shaw on January 25, 1940. Dennis retired from Kennecott Utah Copper as a journeyman machinist, after 40 years of service. He was a member of Mine Mill and Smelter Workers Union. He was an elected officer in the United Steelworkers Union Local #392. Dennis serviced in the U.S. Army during World War II, in the Pacific Theatre. He began his military service in the Utah National Guard at the age of 17. He graduated from South High School in 1939. He loved hunting, fishing, the great outdoors, and enjoyed his many hobbies. Raised and bred hunting dogs. Dennis always had a beautiful flower garden without a weed in it. He was a member of the LDS Church. Dennis is survived by his dear wife of 71 years, Helen; children, Tom (Shauna), Barbara (Tom) Udy, Lynn (Patricia); six grandchildren, 13 great- grandchildren, and one great- great- grandchild; sister, Bernice Etringer. Preceded in death by parents; granddaughter, Wendy; one brother and one sister. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2011, 11:00 am at Redwood Memorial, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan. Viewings will be held on Wednesday from 5-7:00 pm, at the mortuary, and one hour prior to the funeral. Interment to follow. Online condolences to www.memorialutah.com
