Garth Peter Jensen 1918 ~ 2011

Our beloved patriarch, father, grandfather, great & great-great grandfather, Garth Peter Jensen, 93, passed away peacefully at home in Pleasant Grove Utah, on Easter Sunday, April 24th, 2011, surrounded by family. Garth was born on March 29, 1918 in Delta, Utah to Alvin Moroni and Emily (Steele) Jensen. He was one of six children including, Jeanne, Mack, Paul, Ned and Ken. He is the last of his siblings to pass away. His family moved to Los Angeles in 1929. Garth graduated from Manual Arts High School in Los Angeles where he sang with the "Manual Four," a male quartet, performing for school events, radio shows and other Southern California events. He attended Los Angeles Junior College, L.A. City College, Chapman College, U.C.L.A. and University of Southern California. Music has always been a large part of his life. Garth married the love of his life, Mary Lillian Schian, on October 12, 1940. They were sealed in the Arizona Temple on December 10, 1940. They spent most of their married years living in Northridge, CA Ward and survived the 1994 earthquake. Mary and Garth were known for their generous hearts and helping hands. They welcomed everyone as family into their home. In 2000 they moved to Pleasant Grove, UT. Mary passed away March 24, 2004. Garth worked for the City of Los Angeles for almost 40 years, beginning with the Dept. of Water and Power, moving into Tabulating, then serving as Chief of the License and Sales Tax Division, and later becoming the Executive Officer of the City Clerk's office. Garth was active in LDS church and served as Ward Clerk, Stake Clerk, Bishop of the Northridge California Ward, Counselor in the Reseda, CA Stake Presidency, and Regional Welfare Agent. Garth and Mary are survived by their five children; Gary (Sandra) Jensen, Darla ( Harry) Pearce, Sandi (Brent) Griffiths, Treena Bolingbroke, Garth E. (Debra) Jensen, and 150 plus posterity. The family would like to thank Hearts for Hopice for their tender, loving, care. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Mount Mahogany 8th Ward, 1300 West 1541 North, Pleasant Grove. Friends may call Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork and Wednesday from 9:45- 10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church.
