HOUSTON — Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey says the team is looking for a new coach because it needed a different direction, not because Rick Adelman did a poor job.
The Rockets announced Monday that Adelman would not be retained after going 193-135 in four seasons. His contract expires on June 30.
Adelman guided Houston to its lone playoff series victory since 1997 and moved into eighth on the NBA's all-time list for regular season coaching wins (945) at the end of the season.
Morey says the two agreed that Adelman was not the ideal coach to build the Rockets into a championship contender.
