Jack Austin Gilbert 1939 ~ 2011

Jack Austin Gilbert passed away April 11, 2011 in Sandy, Utah. He was born October 16, 1939 in Park City, Utah to James Austin Gilbert and Madie Mair Gilbert. Jacks first love was his family. He supported his children and grandchildren in every sporting event and activity they had. He loved to be surrounded by his family and friends, especially at the family ranch in Gunnison. At heart, Jack was truly a cowboy and loved his horses, even taking part in the local cattle drives. He was an active member of the LDS church, where he served in many different capacities but his biggest passion was in the Young Men's athletic program where he served for numerous years. He loved coaching youth basketball, and had many championship teams. He was a huge fan of U of U basketball and the Jazz. Jack and Sharon always opened their home to anyone in need, and over the years had people live with them who had nowhere else to go. Jack loved his yard and his flowers. Jack worked in the floor covering business for over 40 years, and made many close friends. Jack is survived by his wife Sharon Gilbert, his children Mike Gilbert, Rich Gilbert (Kim), Kathy Hudson, Kris Godfrey, Rafael Julia (Adalgisa), and 13 grandchildren. He is also survived by his three brothers and three sisters. Alex (Diane), Dean and Jimmy (Donna) Gilbert, Francis Hunsaker (Grant), Susan Christensen (Frank) and Ginger Daniels (Dennis). He was preceded in death by his parents James and Madie Gilbert, his stepfather Robert Ford, three brothers, Duane, Rhoton and Bub Gilbert, and his son-in-law Troy Hudson. The family would like to thank the staff at Alta Ridge Alzheimer's for their excellent care and compassion. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 15, 2011 at 12:00 Noon at the Olympus 3rd Ward, 4100 South Camille Drive (2480 East). Friends may visit with the family Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, and at the church Friday morning from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service.
