Patricia Wilton 1922 ~ 2011Comment on this story
Our energetic, independent and entrepreneurial "Grandma Pat" Wilton died peacefully at her home on March 24, 2011 surrounded by family. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Pat was born Aug. 31, 1922 to Gladys and Lawrence Crehore in Fallon, Nevada where her father was the city engineer and her mother was an elementary school teacher. Pat lived through the Great Depression, and learned to face life's challenges head-on. Pat graduated from Churchill County high school as valedictorian and won a four year scholarship to Radcliffe College. She left Boston in 1941 to be near her parents when her brother Larry was taken prisoner by Japanese forces in the Philippines. Pat and her sister Margaret joined the war effort at an aircraft factory in Los Angeles where Pat was an intelligence clerk in the security division and her sister Margaret assembled war planes. After the war, Pat continued her education at Stanford College where she met fellow student Kent Wilton, a veteran U.S. Navy Second Lieutenant who was seeking an engineering degree. After graduating in 1946, Pat and Kent married in Fallon, Nevada, and then relocated to Salt Lake City. While Kent was employed as a civil engineer, Pat taught elementary school and special education in Salt Lake and Granite school districts. In 1970 she opened Olympus Cove Antiques, a successful business for over thirty years. At the age of 84, Pat "retired." Pat continued to be active, running the business through internet, which had become Olympus Cove China. She loved cooking, baking, and making hand dipped chocolates. She is survived by her brother-in-law Bill Blair, daughters Holly (Louis) Williams, Jody (Steve) Price, grandchildren Liz (Mike) Cross, Eric Balken, Hayden and Lauren Eatchel, step-grandchildren Sandra, Emily and Laurel Price, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Kent Keyes Wilton, her brother Larry (Dorothy) Crehore Jr., and her sister Margaret Blair. The family would like to thank: Dr. Stanley Wishner (Los Angeles) and staff for their devoted care of Pat and Kent; CNS Hospice staff for their caring; and the many friends and extended family members who provided support during her last days at home. Funeral Services and interment will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 12:00 noon, Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive in Salt Lake City. Family will receive family and friends on Monday, March 28, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday, March 29 from 11:00 to 11:45 a.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary.
