Charles Nello Jensen 1948~2011

Our husband, father and grandpa, Charles Nello Jensen, left us on March 22, 2011, to continue his journey beyond this world. Although he will be greatly missed by those he left behind, we feel blessed to have so many wonderful memories of our time with him and take comfort in the knowledge that his life led him to touch the hearts of many. Charles was born January 30, 1948 in Brigham City, Utah to Nello and Ruby Jeppesen Jensen. He enjoyed sports in high school and graduated from Weber State University with a degree in education. He served an LDS mission in Peru and Columbia. Charles married his best friend, Lennan in 1970 and together they taught school and raised a family of five great kids. During his thirty years as a school teacher in Salt Lake City, Charles lit a flame in the minds and hearts of hundreds of children with his passion for all things related to science. He won numerous awards from community organizations for his dedicated work and was well respected among his colleagues. His fondest memory from his teaching career was the space shuttle simulator that he built at Backman Elementary School and the fun times he had "launching kids into space." At home, Charles was a great handy-man who loved to build and fix things. His favorite thing to do in the summer - and talk about in the winter - was camping and fishing with his family. He loved Sunday dinners with his children and grand-children, and cheering on the Utah Jazz, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Running Utes. Family was the center of his life and he was always so proud of his children, grandchildren and their accomplishments but most of all, he was just happy when they were around. He found joy in the most important things in life and taught his family to do the same. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Carol Wells, father-in-law Lennox Birckhead and mother-in-law Nancie Johnson. He is survived by his sisters, Marie (Norman) Martin, Joan (Dave) Vanden Bosch, and Kathy (Harry) Uyematsu, a brother, Randy (Judy) Jensen, his wife, Lennan, sons Brett, Spencer (Holly), and Taylor, daughters Lindsay (Tyler) Hyatt and Jill "Lizzie," and three lovable grand-children, Kaylee, Leland and Bentley, plus two girls on the way. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 3:00 p.m at the LDS Church located at 10945 South 1700 East, in Sandy. A viewing will be held at Larkin Sunset Gardens, located at 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, Friday evening from 6 8 p.m. and on Saturday at the ward one hour prior to the funeral. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Charles by taking a moment to remember what is most important in your life and adjust your path if necessary.
