The reason not many people show up to the public hearings is that the Utah Transit Authority just does not care about the bus system or the people they serve. The increase in fares will mean a real decrease ridership on buses, TRAX and FrontRunner. Come August 2011, UTA will be destroying the bus system even more.
Voters voted for an improved transit system. They did not vote for bus route cuts that increase the number of vehicles on the road and increase unemployment due to individuals losing their transportation to work.
Voters did not vote for the disabled and the elderly to lose their independence because of bus routes being canceled. Voters did not vote for an inefficient transit system.
Voters did not vote for UTA executives to receive excessive salaries and bonuses at taxpayers' expense.
A good bus system helps the economy and helps job growth.
