Geraldine Palmer Thurston 1927 ~ 2011

Geraldine Palmer Thurston was born March 14, 1927 in Arco, Idaho, to George Edwin and Ruth Young Palmer in Arco, Idaho, and died on February 25, 2011 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Jerry spent time in her youth in Ogden, Utah, and Arco, Idaho. She married James Noral Thurston in Springfield, Idaho, on May 6, 1947. Jerry loved her family, reading, cooking, animals, collecting things, and the color blue. Her collections of salt and pepper shakers and dragon figurines provoked many comments from visitors. Jerry was a farm wife and as such she worked hard and she taught that ethic to her children. "No TV until the chores are done." She served in the LDS Church as a visiting teacher, Primary Secretary and Teacher, and as Ward Librarian. Jerry is predeceased by her parents, husband, siblings, and son-in-law. She is survived by her four children, Noradene, Diana (Carolyn), Blaine, and Allen (Rachel). She has 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren with two on the way. She is also survived by her youngest sister, Barbra Ann Smith, and her special friend Maria Louisa. Funeral directions under the Hill-Hawker-Sandberg Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue, Blackfoot, ID 83221. The funeral will be held on Thursday March 3, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. in the Lakeview Chapel in Springfield, Idaho. The family would also like to thank the staff at Intermountain Hospice (Dr. Stephen B Smith, Staci, Connie and Sylvia) for their support during this trying time. A special thanks to Hillside Rehabilitation for their care and support of our mom and to Dr. John C Luras for his medical care over the years which helped our mom live to her young age of 83. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to "No More Homeless Pets" in memory of Geraldine Thurston, 8029 South 700 East, Sandy, UT 84070.
