Ruth Wilkins Witt Johnson "Our Beautiful Mother"
SANDY, UT - Ruth W. Johnson, 89, passed away February 21, 2011 peacefully at Alta Ridge Alzheimer's Community from complications due to Alzheimer's disease. She was born November 18, 1921 in Draper, Utah to Henry Leslie Wilkins and Florence Humphreys. She was the oldest of four children. Married Dean Russell Witt July 29, 1938, later divorced. He died November 1990. Married Ronald A. Johnson April 5, 1962. He preceded her in death October 16, 1989. She lived in Draper until 1958, moved to Kanab, Salina, and then to Sandy. She held many positions in the LDS church, Primary teacher, counselor in the Primary presidency, Young Women's Mia Maid leader, chorister, activity counselor, secretary of the Sunday School. Genealogy was her love and passion. Along with her two year calling, she dedicated a significant portion of her life searching for her ancestors at the Family History Library. She recruited family and friends to help her complete the family temple ordinances. She loved her home, her gardens, and her family, especially the children. She was always happy with her crocheting, quilts and temple work and cared deeply for others. She loved music, especially the piano and organ, and even taught the grandchildren, nieces and nephews to play. Survived by five daughters and one son: Dorothy Ruth (Michael) McGuire, Hertford, NC; Leslie Dean (Betty) Witt, Independence, CA; Nora Kathleen (Thomas) Vennard, Stratford, NY; Randy Lee (Dennis) Bringhurst, Sandy, UT; Danell (Randy Paul) Sorensen, South Jordan, UT; Melanie (Randy Clair) Nielsen, West Palm Beach, FL; 22 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Grace Wallace, Salt Lake City, UT. Preceded in death by her husband, father, mother, step-father, two brothers, baby daughter, Thelma Florence, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Ruth's family is extremely grateful for the compassionate care given to Ruth by the staff at Alta Ridge Alzheimer's Community. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 28, 2011 at 12:00 noon at the Telford Ward, 1834 E. Creek Road (7995 S), Sandy, UT 84093. Family and friends may visit on Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. prior to the services. Interment at Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 S. Redwood Road, West Jordan, UT 84123.
