Florence June Meik Howell 1921 ~ 2011
Florence June "Flossie" MeikHowell was born May 23, 1921 to Lorenzo Alexander Meik and Margueritte Clara Smith in South Jordan, Utah and passed away on February 21, 2011 in Salt Lake City. She grew up in what later became the Rose Park area of Salt Lake City, and while attending West High School, she met the love of her life, Sidney G. Howell. They were married on June 5, 1940 in Salt Lake City. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on November 3, 1961. Sidney died in 1998. Sidney, his father and his brother were all Union Pacific Railroad employees. Florence and Sidney used their railroad privileges to travel throughout the western United States. They had no children but their dogs and cats were loved as much as any child could be. Florence worked for Montgomery Ward for many years, and later she worked with Sidney at Ketchum's Builders Supply until it closed. She faithfully served in many LDS Church capacities but mostly with the Primary children. Florence is the last of her family. She has now joined her parents, her brother and two sisters, her pets and her best friend, Sidney, in a wonderful family reunion. The family wishes to thank the compassionate caregivers at Woodland Care Center for their devoted care of Flossie. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 26, at 2 p.m. at Redwood Memorial Mortuary, 6500 South Redwood Road, with a viewing beginning one hour prior to the service.
