Utah basketball: Clyburn 'questionable' for New Mexico game

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah junior forward Will Clyburn is questionable for Saturday's game at New Mexico after suffering a contusion to his right heel Wednesday in the Utes' 80-70 win over Wyoming.

Clyburn injured his foot with 10:00 left in the game after getting fouled by the Cowboys' Daylen Harrison. He made two free throws and limped off the court with the Utes leading 53-50.

X-rays taken Thursday morning were negative, while an MRI revealed moderate bruising to his heel. Clyburn didn't practice Thursday and is listed as day-to-day.

Clyburn leads the Utes in several categories, including points (18.3 ppg), rebounds (8.3 rpg), steals (1.2 spg) and 3-point shooting (41.4 percent). He also leads the team in minutes played at 35.9, which is also tops in the Mountain West Conference for the season.

Coach Jim Boylen was happy his team was able to pull off Wednesday's win without Clyburn in the lineup.

"I was proud of our group to win that game without him down the stretch," Boylen said. "He's been a big player for us, making big shots and big plays and making free throws. It's a heck of a win without him."

If Clyburn were to miss any games it would be a blow to the Utes, who already had freshman J.J. O'Brien sit out for six weeks with a foot injury and have had senior forward Jay Watkins out for the year with a back injury since mid-January.
