Lois Nancy Hilbert Steele 1926 ~ 2011

St. George, UT - Lois Nancy Hilbert Steele passed away on February 13, 2011 at Kolob Care Center surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on March 5, 1926 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Rudolph Hilbert and Sarah Whitecar Hilbert. She was the third child of four born to this union. Lois was raised and educated in Salt Lake, graduating from West High School in 1944. She married Robert Lawrence Steele on October 28, 1944 in Salt Lake. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on May 1, 1959. She gave birth to five children: JoEllen (William) Foster of Mesquite, NV; Robert L. Jr. (Cheri) of Ivins, UT; Mark H. (Sherry) of Bonham, TX; Karen (Douglas) Jennings of Central, UT and John M. (Stephanie) of Jackson, WY. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lois held leadership and teaching positions in all of the church auxiliaries and was involved in the Boy Scout Program for many years. Lois put her many skills to work at numerous jobs over the years. She worked at Kress's, Auerbach's, Friendship House, ZCMI and as the City Clerk in Delta, Utah. She worked in the automotive industry as a business manager at Madsen-Jewkes, Labrum-Ford and Keith Dalton Motors. She was preceded in death by her older siblings, Dwayne "Buck" Hilbert of Teton, ID and Marletta Schultz of Salt Lake, and is survived by younger brother, Robert Hilbert of Salt Lake. The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of The Meadows Assisted Living Center, Kolob Care Center and Zion's Way Hospice and their staff, for their care during mothers declining years and a very special thanks to Victor. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. Visitations will be held Wednesday, February 16th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to services, both at the Mortuary.
