Ida Christensen Alvey, 89, our loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, an Elect Lady, passed away quietly at her home in Vermillion on Thursday, January 27, 2011. She was born in Delta, Utah, April 9, 1921, a daughter of Edward Peter and Ida Bennett Christensen. She married Llewellyn "Lew" Alvey, August 17, 1943 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He preceded her in death June 12, 1983. They were the parents of five daughters and one son, and long time residents of Vermillion and Sigurd. She was active in various community and church organizations, having served as captain and member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Camp Cedar Ridge, for over 50 years. She has also served as president in all the ward auxiliary organizations: Primary, Young Women and Relief Society. Her influence on others is well known, as a teacher to many youth and especially to her own family. She had a great love of music and was inspirational as music director for both her ward and stake. She was talented in both piano and voice, she served as ward pianist for several years, and also sang in many trios and choirs. Ida loved the Lord and the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and would often share her testimony of the Savior and the truthfulness of His gospel. Her faith in the power of prayer was evident to her family and they believe she had a direct line to heaven. Her family knows she has always been on the Lord's side, and that angels could do no better. After the death of her husband, Ida served a full time mission for the LDS Church in the Anchorage Alaska Mission from 1985 to 1987. She also served many years as an ordinance worker in the Manti Temple. She was known for her many talents, and was an excellent pie maker, seamstress, quilter, gardener, softball coach and grandma! Her influence has been, and will be felt by the generations who follow her example. Ida is survived by her children: Loui (Frank) Keeney, Jo Ann Alvey, Ida Marie (Jim) Carter, Janine (Larry) Astle, Kelly (Tracy) Alvey; son-in-law, Jim Crowther; 21 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; brother, Grant (Jeanne) Christensen. In addition to her beloved husband, she is preceded in death by daughter, Erlene Crowther; grandson, Casey Crowther, great-granddaughter, Courtney Petersen; brothers, Merlin, Lindeau, Edward, Joseph, Bernard Christensen and sister, Martha Roundy. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 4, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sigurd LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call at the Magleby Mortuary in Richfield on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the ward chapel in Sigurd on Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:30a.m. Burial will be in Sigurd Cemetery.
