Warren Richard "Dick" Adair 1925 ~ 2011
Dick passed away Monday, Jan. 17, 2011 after a courageous 30 year battle with heart disease. He passed away at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born Oct. 1, 1925 in Murray, Utah to William Bailey Adair and Nettie Hardy Adair. Married Apr. 18, 1953 to Patricia Donaldson. Later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple July 29, 1975. Dick graduated from Granite High School in 1943 and later served in the U.S. Navy for three years during World War II in the South Pacific. Graduated from Utah Technical College. He became a skilled carpenter, who built many homes throughout the valley with partners Earl Warner (brother-in-Law) and Norris Carter, later to be known as Ideal Builders. Moved to Sandy in 1956. Was actively involved in the growth of the community. He was instrumental in forming the Sandy Boys Baseball League, organizing the Sandy Lions Club and Honorary Colonels Assn. He served 19 years on the Sandy City Council and served many years volunteering throughout his life. Some of his contributions to the community were: Chairman of the committee to build the Sandy City Senior Center, remodeling of the Sandy Chamber of Commerce Office, Chairman of the Sandy City Centennial Celebration and many other projects throughout Sandy. He was honored with many service awards including: Utah State Chamber of Commerce "Total Citizen of the Year" (shared with Pat), Sandy City "Noel Bateman Award", "Certificate of Achievement" from the Utah House of Representatives, Sandy City and the State of Utah "Volunteer of the Year", "Official Citation" read on the floor of the Senate, "Key to the City", "Declaration of Service" presented from the Utah Governor (shared with Pat). Was an active member of the L.D.S. Church and served in many callings. Served in the Jordan River Temple for many years and five years as a Host and Usher at the Church Conference Center. Survived by wife Pat, children, Brent, Mark (Theresa), Rick and Susan (Steve); granddaughters Jennifer (Clay), Megan and Kayla; brother and sister-in-laws, Donna Kirkeby, Mike Murray (Vicky) and Bev (Terry) Turville. Funeral service will be held Friday, Jan. 21, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cottonwood Creek Stake Center located at 1535 East Creek Road. A viewing will be held Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011 at Larkin Sunset Gardens located at1950 E. 10600 S. from 6-8 p.m. and Friday at the Stake Center from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
