Mary Carol Malmstrom Lehmitz 1927 ~ 2011

Mary Carol Malmstrom Lehmitz, 83, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2011 surrounded by her loving family.She was born December 20, 1927 in Midvale, Utah; first daughter of Wallace Ephraim Malmstrom and Selma Olson Malmstrom. She is survived by her sons Paul (Teresa) Lehmitz, Darryl (Selma) Lehmitz, and daughter Carol (Erban) Green; sisters Mildred Malmstrom, Florence (Jim) Diamond, her brother Willard (Carol) Malmstrom, and sisters-in-law Carol and Barbara Malmstrom, 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was also loved by several Lehmitz brother and sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wm. Glen Lehmitz, whom she married in the Salt lake Temple on April 9, 1952; her toddler son, Cole W. Lehmitz; sisters Edith Ax and Bertha Ring, and brothers Robert and Franklin Malmstrom. A life long resident of West Jordan, she became the first woman to graduate from BYU with a degree in animal husbandry. She often used her knowledge on the family farm and shared it freely with others as a 4-H leader for many years. She had a natural gift for working with animals and treasured her time with them. She was active in the LDS church all her life and served as a temple worker for several years. In her later life she enjoyed family history and writing her personal life experiences. The family expresses their heartfelt thanks to the staff of South Valley Dialysis for nine years of care and friendship, and to Vicky Detry and Ada de la Cruz for their love and aid. A viewing will be held on Friday, January 21, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to an 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Saturday, January 22, 2011. Both will be at the Jordan Oaks Stake Center, 8117 S. Leslie Dr. (3905 W). Interment will be at Wight's Fort Cemetery in West Jordan. Directors Independent Funeral Service
