Fundraiser to help family of longtime youth hockey volunteer

WEST VALLEY CITY — In a tragic accident the day before Thanksgiving, longtime Murray High School hockey volunteer Dave Brown walked onto the ice at the Salt Lake County Ice Center to help push a broken-down Zamboni.

Brown slipped and fell back on his head and suffered serious head injuries. He was in the hospital for two weeks before passing away.

The Utah hockey community has organized a fundraising event for his wife and children and are asking for assistance. With the help of the ECHL's Utah Grizzlies, from Jan. 15 to Feb. 20, an online auction of several items of donated sports memorabilia can be bid upon.

Items can be viewed at utahgrizzlies.com, beginning Saturday.

All proceeds from this auction will go to the benefit of Brown's wife and children.
