I abhor your misuse of the word "disease" when describing autism ("Researchers fear parental backlash," page A1, Jan. 7). Autism is a neurological disorder. Autistic individuals need to learn to live within the realm of their diagnosis. Those around them need to learn to live with their idiosyncrasies.
It seems journalist need to learn that it is not a disease. It is not something that can be cured. A reader might make the assumption about autism from your misuse of the word disease that it is contagious. For the record, I was never one of those parents who thought my child had autism from his shots. I recognized he was different before his shots.
