Utah Jazz notebook: Paul Millsap latest player to be injured
August Miller, Deseret News
SALT LAKE CITY — Another day of practice for the Utah Jazz. Another day of not having everybody go.
The Jazz worked out Tuesday morning without an injured Paul Millsap. The power forward bruised his right hip during Monday's 102-97 win over Detroit.
Not surprisingly, Millsap didn't complain about or mention the injury in the locker room after notching a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds.
The 25-year-old is one of four Jazz players to see action in all 35 games this season. (Al Jefferson, Ronnie Price and Deron Williams are the other three with perfect playing attendance so far.)
Officially, Millsap is listed as a game-time decision for tonight's homestand finale against the Atlanta Hawks. He has only missed six of 363 games in five-plus seasons due to injury.
The good news for the Jazz on the injury front was that Mehmet Okur returned to practice after missing the past three games with a strained lower back.
But the 6-11 center only participated at half-speed and did not take part in contact drills.
Okur, who on Monday said he's hopeful to play Wednesday against Atlanta, remains day-to-day. He was sidelined for the first 26 games while nursing his surgically repaired Achilles tendon back to full strength and then missed two contests with a sprained right ankle before tweaking his back.
JAZZ ALUMNI CUT: With the date when nonguaranteed contracts become guaranteed for the season quickly approaching (Jan. 10), two ex-Jazz players have been waived by their teams this week.
Center Jarron Collins, who spent his first eight NBA seasons in Utah starting in 2001, was dropped by the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday. The Stanford product has played for Phoenix and the Clippers since not being re-signed by Utah after the 2008-09 season.
Also, the Minnesota Timberwolves sent point guard Sundiata Gaines packing on Tuesday.
The former D-League player found a home in Utah from January through the end of last season after making that heroic Cleveland-beating shot at the buzzer a year ago. He then played for the Jazz's summer league team and attended fall camp before being released prior to the opening of this season.
Injury-plagued Minnesota picked him up in November.
PERFECT NIGHT: Six times this season before Monday, Deron Williams had missed just one free throw when making 10 or more attempts from the charity stripe.
The 86 percent free-throw shooter found perfection on the line against the Pistons, going 13-for-13 with two game-clinching makes in the final five seconds.
Williams' previous best performance was an 11-for-11 game against Boston last March. That was the only other time in his career he made very shot with a minimum of 10 attempts.
10-DAY DAY: Today marks the first day NBA teams can sign free agent players to 10-day contracts. Barring another injury, it seems unlikely the Jazz will sign another player.
Last season, Utah's two 10-day contract players — guards Gaines and Othyus Jeffers — managed to stick around through the end of the season after their initial deals expired.
Neither, however, is in the NBA now. Jeffers, however, continues to make a name for himself in the D-League, having earned Player of the Week honors last week for the second time this season with the Iowa Energy.
AND EVANS?: Jazz rookie forward Jeremy Evans is the only player on Utah's 13-man squad that has a nonguaranteed deal. However, it would be highly unlikely that Utah's second-round pick from Western Kentucky be waived, considering both his play this season and the fact the Jazz are at the roster minimum.
