Robert Walter Koplin 1931 ~ 2011Comment on this story
Our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather passed away on January 1, 2011. Born July 30, 1931 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Walter Gustav Koplin and Hannah Frances Moore, Married Geraldenne (Gerry) Smith, February 14, 1951 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Survived by his wife, daughter Janice Susan (Thomas) Honeycutt and son Brent Robert (Jennifer) Koplin, four grandchildren: Steven Brent Koplin, Matthew Andrew Koplin, Michael Thomas Honeycutt, and Amanda Jayne (Chad) Wageman, sister Kathryn (Stephen, deceased) McClellan; also many nephews and nieces. Robert was preceded in death by his brother Richard Koplin, and sister Judith Mooring. Robert graduated from East High School and earned a B.S. from the University of Utah where he was affiliated with Kappa Sigma fraternity. He furthered his education attending graduate classes at the University of Utah. Robert also served in the 20th U.S. Air Force, stationed on Okinawa during the Korean conflict. While in the transportation business he was a sales representative and then operations manager for Salt Lake-Kanab Freight Lines, was terminal manager for Arizona-Utah Express and then terminal manager and district manager for Illinois-California Express. The last years of his professional life were spent working for the State of Utah in the Department of Commerce as a consultant and a transportation analyst. He retired in 1996. As a member of the LDS Church, he was very active while his health allowed. He served in many church positions; assistant secretary to four Bishoprics, sunday school teacher, assistant Scoutmaster and merit badge counselor. He was a history "buff", an avid reader, enjoyed oil painting, which he shared with many. He was a Utes fan, loved golfing, camping, hunting, fishing and skiing. The family would like to express their appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff at the VA Medical Center. The funeral will be held Wednesday, January 5th, at Monument Park 15th Ward, 1320 South Wasatch Drive in Salt Lake City, at 12:00 noon. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City, Utah, and an hour prior to the funeral at the church. Interment in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
