SALT LAKE CITY — A local radio personality is bringing a professional rugby team to Utah.
Sean Whalen, who hosts the Sean Whalen Show on AM-1400, announced Monday that he has reached an agreement with the Rugby Super League (RSL) to create a new team, the Utah Warriors.
"I am excited to bring the highest level of rugby in America to my home state of Utah," said Whalen in a press release. "There has been amazing support and excitement from fans and sponsors that we have been working with, and I'm sure with the official announcement of the team, the excitement will continue to grow.
Jon Law, the former president of the Utah Rugby Union, will coach the team. Law won four National Championships as a player in Highland High's rugby program. Additionally, Whalen announced the Warriors have already secured the services of two U.S. National Team players, Mike Palefau and Jason Pye.
The Rugby Super League consists of 12 teams across the country, plays six regular-season games starting in March.
