SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon and the Art Selection Committee will host the county's annual public art open house at the Salt Lake County Government Center from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 7.
Seventeen new pieces of art will be unveiled in the atrium of the North Building. Corroon will introduce the artists and donors responsible for the new additions. Three works are from young contemporary artists. Fourteen pieces were gifts from residents of Salt Lake County.
Salt Lake County's art collection started with 207 works in 1985, which coincided with the construction of the county government complex. Legislation allows 1 percent of the construction budget of a public building to be spent on the purchase or commission of art.
The county collection's now numbers 580 works, about 20 percent of which were donated.
