Summary

For BYU true freshman quarterback Jake Heaps, it's been a season of firsts. First collegiate snap. First completion. First interception. First touchdown pass. First start.

"He appears much more confident," Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said of Heaps. "Any true freshman that gets his first opportunity, there's going to be a learning curve.

"I think he's settled in and feels comfortable in the offense. Physically, he's got a lot of ability. He's got good size. He's got a quick release. He's got a good arm. So, he's got a lot going for him.

"But Division I football is a big step up from high school, and that was just the natural learning curve that he went through," Doman said.

And there's nothing like playing in a BYU-Utah game for the first time — especially for a true freshman quarterback.

I am with patriot on this. BYU has yet to win a game this year in which they were really forced to win by the pass. They haven't really needed to since they have a good running game. The pass game was set up by the run game. Heaps has been able to More..

A grim note for Jake Heaps... No freshman QB at BYU has ever beaten Utah @ Utah. In fact it has usually been a senior QB that has beaten Utah. This game is tough for a freshman because although Jake is much better now than he was back in September he More..
