Table Talk: Utah food events

The Painted Pony, 2 W. St. George Blvd. offeres live piano music on Thursdays, 6-9 p.m. Every Wednesday is Ladies Night, women's meals at half price (www.painted-pony.com or 435-634-1700).

Rebecca Millican, pastry chef for Amano Chocolate, recently appeared on an episode of the "Food Network Challenge." The episode, "Flying Sugar," shows pastry chefs making a sugar showpiece that flies. Millicam is now preparing for a chocolate challenge on the show, which will air next month.

Her truffles recently won a gold medal at the Los Angeles Luxury Chocolate Salon, the first time that Amano has entered truffles in a chocolate competition. Amano also won best dark chocolate, top artisan chocolatier, most luxurious chocolate experience, best traditional chocolates, best dark chocolate bar and best in salon. Their chocolate, as well as Millicam's truffles and other confections, are sold at Amano's factory store at 450 S. 1325 West, Orem.

The Utah Bakers Dozen is hosting a "Savory Tart and Real Salt" workshop Nov. 8, 4-6 p.m., at Viking Cooking School, 2233 S. 300 East. Award-winning pastry chef Mary Cech will demonstrate fall-inspired tarts, and her new cookbook, "Savory Baking," will be available. Cech was pastry chef for two years at Charlie Trotter's in Chicago. Real Salt of Redmond, Utah, will do an educational tasting.

Bambara Restaurant is offering "Snowstorm" specials to benefit the Utah Avalanche Center through Nov. 12. The daily three-course special includes salad or cup of the daily soup, one of three entree selections, and a chocolate chip cookie, for $13. One dollar from each special will be donated to the Center (bambara-slc.com).

Harmons at Bangerter Crossing, 125 E. 13800 South, Draper, is hosting a book signing of "Meat. Salt. Time." by chef Tony Seichrist, Nov. 19, 5-7 p.m.

Seichrist's book profiles Italian salumi master Cristiano Creminelli of Creminelli Fine Meats Inc. Salumi are Italian cured meat products; salami is a type of salumi. Creminelli was born into a long line of master salumi makers and relocated to Utah a few years ago. There will also be a preview tasting of Creminelli's limited white truffle salumi (harmson, will be offered as samples at this event (www.creminelli.com).
