MEN'S SOCCER: Jordan Roylance scored two goals pacing Dixie State College to a 2-0 win over Chaminade University in the Red Storm's final home game of the year on Monday night at Hansen Stadium in St. George.
Roylance's first goal came in the 20th minute on a pass from Clayton Alexander that he deposited into the right corner of the goal from seven yards out.
The final goal came in the 51st minute when Eudoro Guizar found a streaking Nyle Ortiz who headed the ball to Roylance. He gracefully then headed the ball into the back of the net, giving DSC a 2-0 lead.
DSC outshot Chaminade 16-5 and Tyler Walters earned the win in goal.
The Red Storm improved to 7-8-1 overall and 6-5-1 in PacWest play. The Silverswords drop to 1-12-1 overall and 0-11-1 in the PacWest.
Dixie State will conclude their season with a trip to the San Francisco Bay Area to take Dominican University and Academy of Art this weekend.
WOMEN'S SOCCER: The Dixie State College women's soccer team concluded its 2010 home season tonight with a 6-0 drubbing of Chaminade University at Hansen Stadium.
Mindy Beckstrom scored her first of two goals in the 16th minute on pass from Erin Beeston to give the Red Storm a 1-0 lead. DSC out-shot the Silverswords 8-1 in the first half.
In the second half, a barrage of Red Storm attacked Chaminade goalkeeper Marissa Minor. DSC attempted 19 shots in the second half and connected five times.
Wendy Stratford scored from 30 yards out on a cross from Beeston in the 65th minute, giving DSC the 2-0 lead.
Beeston added a goal to her two assists on the night in the 65th minute by cleaning up after a Camille Peterson-Jensen shot was blocked by the Minor before Beeston found the right corner of the goal. It was Beeston's fourth goal of the season.
Beckstrom connected on her second goal of the match from 27 yards out in the 68th minute on an assist from Kalehua Harward.
Just 15 seconds later, in the 69th minute, Julie Chipman connected on her first of two goals on a breakaway just after play resumed after the previous goal. Dixie State led 5-0 at that point.
Peterson-Jensen earned an assist in the 75th minute on a center pass at 14 yards out to Chipman, who found the back of the net for the second time of the match, giving the Red Storm a 6-0 advantage.
April Beck-Hansen and Abby Monroe-Johnson each played half in goal for the Red Storm.
Dixie State improves to 10-6 overall and 7-5 in the PacWest. Chaminade drops to 2-12 overall and 2-10 in the PacWest.
The Red Storm concludes its season with a road trip this weekend to the San Francisco Bay area to play Domincan University and Academy of Art University.
