Parry's Power Guide: Altamont by 27

All-time series: Altamont leads 13-8

Coach vs. Coach: Altamont's Mike Fieldstead leads Milford's Brian Williamson, 1-0

Last meeting: Oct. 13, 2010 — Altamont 39, Milford 9

Two weeks ago Altamont steamrolled visiting Milford 39-9 in a nonregion game. When these teams meet again this weekend in the first round of the 1A playoffs, a similar result is expected.

"We should be able to handle them I think," said Altamont coach Mick Fieldstead.

The earlier game was in Altamont, but this week's playoff contest is in Milford. A long bus ride might be the only thing that could slow down the Longhorns.

"We've just got to play our game. Keep the ball on the ground and power over them like we did last time," said Fieldstead.

In the earlier meeting, Altamont capitalized on a young and undersized Milford defense as Zach Hatch rushed for 175 yards and a touchdown and Kyle Foy added 139 yards and a score.

Regardless of who it's playing, Altamont must play with more intensity than it did in a season-ending 28-0 loss at Duchesne last Friday. Fieldstead is the first to admit that if his team plays like that again, Milford could pull off the upset.

Despite losing to Rich, Duchesne and Monticello during the regular season, Altamont fancies itself as a state title contender. Assuming the Longhorns take care of business, they would get another shot at Duchesne in the semifinals.
