One of the Czech Republic's foremost string quartets, the Skampa Quartet, will pay a visit to Salt Lake City on Monday as part of their 10-day tour to the United States.
Presented by the Chamber Music Society of Salt Lake City, the Skampa will play a program consisting of Ludwig van Beethoven's Quartet in E flat major, op. 74 ("Harp"); Dmitri Shostakovich's Quartet No. 8 in E minor, perhaps his most frequently played quartet; and Leos Janacek's Quartet No. 2 ("Intimate Letters").
Since its founding, the Skampa has played concert venues throughout the United States and Europe, including Wigmore Hall and also as part of the Chamber Music Proms in London.
The group has recorded extensively on the Czech Supraphon label, and recently their performances in England have been selected to be released on the Wigmore Hall Live label.
Since 2001, the members of the Skampa have been visiting professors of chamber music at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
