FUND-RAISING RUN SATURDAY
SALT LAKE CITY — The University of Utah's CARMA Center will host the first annual Atrial Fibrillation 5K Run on Saturday at Sugar House Park.
CARMA provides pioneering leadership in advancing clinical treatments and research for cardiac arrhythmias, especially atrial fibrillation (AFib), a heart rhythm disorder that affects more than five million Americans and causes 30 percent of all strokes in Utah.
All proceeds from Saturday's event will be used to help CARMA achieve its goal of raising $50,000 for the first Utah Cardiac Arrhythmia Research Endowment. Some of the runners will be patients whose atrial fibrillation was cured by Dr. Nassir Marrouche, the executive director of CARMA.
To register for the event, visit www.carma5k.org or call 801-213-2237. On Saturday, the registration desk opens at 8 a.m. and the race starts at 9 a.m. The race begins at the Mt. Olympus Pavilion of Sugar House Park. Entry fee is $25, or $15 for University of Utah students who show their IDs at the registration desk. All runners receive a T-shirt.
Medals will be given to age-bracket winners, and additional prizes (movie tickets, dining certificates, etc.) will be awarded in a random drawing after the race.
BISON RANGE RIDE, ROUNDUP
SYRACUSE — The 24th annual Bison Range Ride and Roundup will be staged Friday, Oct. 29 and, if necessary, Saturday, Oct. 30 at Antelope Island State Park.
The western-style roundup will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This annual event is an opportunity to view one of the nation's largest and oldest public herds as horseback riders move the bison from the southern tip of the island to the handling facility located at the park's northern end.
Riders and bison may be viewed from the eastside road leading to the Fielding Garr Ranch. Viewers should bring binoculars for a closer look at animals and handlers.
For more information, please call 801-773-2941.

Sand Hollow Reservoir — Winter park hours from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday; and 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
