ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The Utah Grizzlies (0-0-1-0) fell in overtime late Friday night in Alaska in the season opener for both teams.
The Grizzlies battled back from a 1-0 third period deficit to take a 2-1 lead.
Daryl Boyle fired a shot through traffic as an Alaska power-play expired 40 seconds into overtime to give the Aces the two points.
"We had a lot of fight in the dog tonight, we all battled," said Grizzlies coach Kevin Colley. "Our goaltending was solid, but unfortunately we just took a few untimely penalties.
Utah's Brent Gauvreau and Chris Donovan — his first of his career — also scored for the Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies' home opener is Friday against the Bakersfield Condors.
