THE STAKES

For SDSU ... At 3-1, the Aztecs are looking to build on their best start since 2003.

For BYU ... The Cougars likely need a victory today to avoid a losing season and have a shot at a bowl game.

THE TRENDS

For SDSU ... The Aztecs haven't defeated BYU since 2005, and haven't won in Provo since 2000.

For BYU ... The Cougars are stuck in a four-game losing streak, their longest in 17 years. BYU is 15-2 all-time against the Aztecs in Provo.

THE EDGE

SDSU will win if ... its explosive offense takes advantage of BYU's porous defense, which is ranked No. 120 in the nation in rushing yards allowed.

BYU will win if ... the defense can get stops, force turnovers and the offense somehow has a breakout performance against the Aztecs.

PLAYER TO WATCH

Jake Heaps, BYU: The true freshman quarterback is 0-2 as a starter and is looking for more help from his teammates, who dropped multiple passes in last week's setback at Utah State.

KEY MATCHUP

BYU defense vs. SDSU offense: The depleted Cougar "D" will be challenged on the ground by freshman running back Ronnie Hillman, and through the air by quarterback Ryan Lindley and wide receiver Vincent Brown.

INJURY REPORT
