KEARNS — A West Jordan man has been charged with several first-degree felonies after prosecutors say he and a few other people tied a Kearns man to his refrigerator and stole thousands of dollars worth of property.
The victim was awoken on Sept. 20 to find the defendant, a man he knew only as "Frankie," holding a gun to his head, according to charges filed in 3rd District Court. With another man at the foot of his bed armed with a knife, the victim tried to run away but was tackled, charges state.
Prosecutors say the victim's head was covered with a pillow case and the men used zip ties to bind him to the refrigerator while other people entered his home and removed property, including a $2,600 TV, a DVD player and his wallet.
The victim was able to free himself just as the robbers were leaving and detectives responded to the scene. Detectives learned the victim's car had been stolen two weeks earlier and a man named Frank Acevedo was stopped while driving that car.
Police prepared a photo lineup and the 32-year-old Acevedo was identified as "Frankie," charges state.
Acevedo was charged with aggravated burglary, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery, all first-degree felonies, and aggravated assault, a second-degree felony. He was booked into Salt Lake County Jail on $150,000 bail.
