WEST VALLEY CITY — An elementary school was placed under lockdown for about 35 minutes Tuesday after a man heard what he thought was shots being fired across the street from the school at an apartment complex.
The "boom" sound came from a power transformer that blew, said West Valley police.
The incident happened about 9 a.m. near 3900 Rancho Visto Lane (5300 West), said Granite School District spokesman Ben Horsley. The school was placed in lockdown after a report of shots fired was made and police were called.
About 35 minutes later, the school received an "all clear" from police.
