WEST CANYON — A helicopter hoisted a 49-year-old man from West Canyon Sunday after he was injured when the mule he was riding tumbled down a steep embankment, pinning him.
Officials aren't sure how the accident occurred, but the victim was riding with a friend about 1:38 p.m. when he tumbled down the embankment near the border between Utah and Tooele counties and suffered serious head injuries.
A helicopter hovered overhead and assisted search and rescue teams with a rope system to raise the victim up and lift him away.
He was transported to University Hospital with serious injuries.
The mule was not badly injured.
