SANDY — A Sandy woman died Thursday from injuries she suffered during an auto-pedestrian accident the night before.
Harriett Sutton, 77, was walking east on 9400 South at the crosswalk at 700 East with her daughter when a sport utility vehicle making a left-hand turn struck her about 2 p.m., police said.
The victim was transported in critical condition to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray. Sandy Police Sgt. Troy Arnold said Sutton underwent surgery Wednesday night but injuries were still life-threatening. She died Thursday morning.
"Her daughter was in the crosswalk with her," Arnold said. "Our witnesses say it's miraculous she wasn't hit, too."
Officials say the pedestrians had the right of way and police are still investigating why the driver of the SUV, an 18-year-old man, didn't see them. No citations have been issued. Police said drugs and alcohol were not factors in the accident.
