SALT LAKE CITY — Are you faster than a speeding cheetah?
Probably not, but you can try to exceed 70 mph Saturday as Utah's Hogle Zoo and the Utah Chapter of the Association of American Zoo Keepers host the Wild Stampede, a run and walk to raise money for Action for Cheetahs in Kenya.
This 5K (3.1 mile) run and walk will begin at 8 a.m. at Hogle Zoo's entry plaza at 2600 Sunnyside Ave., winding above the zoo through Michigan Avenue and Wasatch Drive, to 1300 South and returning to the zoo.
All proceeds from the event will go to Action for Cheetahs in Kenya, a nonprofit cheetah conservation project in Kenya. The group's mission is to promote the conservation of cheetahs through research, awareness and community participation in Kenya. Working closely with local wildlife authorities and landholders, together they develop policies and programs that offer mutual support for both wildlife conservation and human livelihoods.
Registration is $30. Those who wish to participate in the race can register on Active.com or with the Hogle Zoo guest services office. For more information, go to www.hoglezoo.org.
