WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: The Wolverines (8-6) will play its lone match of the week Tuesday at 7 p.m., in Cedar City, when the Wolverines take on in-state rival Southern Utah.

UVU has won eight of its last 10 matches on the season and will enter Tuesday's match looking to go 3-0 all-time against SUU after the Wolverines swept the season series versus the T-Birds last year.

Offensively the Wolverines were led last week by senior Kayli Doxey and junior Chelsey Heaps as the duo were named to the Utah State Invitational All-Tournament Team. Doxey led UVU with 63 kills last week and averaged 4.20 kills per set, while Heaps put up 41 kills (2.73 k/s).

Southern Utah will enter Tuesday's match with a 5-6 overall record and a 3-1 clip so far in The Summit League. SUU has also won its last three matches after recently defeating South Dakota State, Centenary and Oral Roberts.

The T-Birds are led offensively by Analaine Pelaez who has 160 total kills on the year and is averaging 4.21 kills per set. Jazmine Ma'afala is second on the squad in kills with 83 and holds an average of 2.18 kills per set. Setter Brittney Clark is also having a big season for SUU so far as she has 398 assists and averages 10.4 assists per set.

UVU and SUU will meet-up again this season on Oct. 19, in Orem. Before then though, the Wolverines will next return to Great West Conference action and play at South Dakota and North Dakota on Sept. 30 and Oct. 2 respectively.

WOMEN'S GOLF: At Flagstaff, Ariz., fast, firm greens took their toll on the UVU women's golf team Monday in the first round of the Mountain Shootout at Forest Highlands Course with no player shooting better than 80.

Stacey Parkinson's 85 was the best round of the day for the Wolverines, while Abbie Archibald, Stephanie Fox and Celeste Gish carded rounds of 88, and Morgan Workman finished with a 92.

Parkinson is currently in 23rd, while Fox and Gish are tied for 26th.

"It was a tough lesson (fast, firm greens), but things will be better Tuesday," UVU women's golf coach Sue Nyhus said.

The Wolverines are currently in fifth place with a team score of 349 heading into Tuesday's final round.

Southern Utah leads the tournament at 305 and is five shots clear Grand Canyon University and host Northern Arizona, who are tied for second.
