HERRIMAN — Fire authorities are asking Herriman residents to stay away from areas where fire suppression is ongoing.
No timeline has been established for allowing residents to return to their homes, said Unified Fire Authority Chief Michael Jensen, adding that it's still too early to estimate fire containment.
The fire broke out Sunday afternoon at Camp Williams while the Utah National Guard trained with live ammunition.
During the afternoon and into the evening, winds whipped up the flames to eventually destroy four homes. By Monday morning, which brought calm air to Herriman, firefighters were set to attack the fire again.
And authorities urged residents to stay away so firefighters could do their work.
Residents must stay out of areas south of 14200 South and south of Rose Canyon Road unless they have an emergency or critical reason to be there.
Residents may be allowed into areas north of 14200 South. Residents who have legitimate business in that area of the city may say so at a checkpoint.
