TOOELE COUNTY — Chemicals burned two people at a magnesium producing plant in Tooele County on Sunday.
The victims were working with chemicals at the Allegheny Technologies Industries plant, at 12633 N. Rowley Road, when one person received second-degree burns and the other received third-degree burns just before 8 p.m., dispatchers said.
Officials had few details but believe the two men in their mid-20s were injured when some chemicals spilled accidentally, Tooele County Sheriff's deputy Clinton Fox said. Both men were in serious condition.
Tooele County Sheriff's deputies and North Tooele fire crews were dispatched to the scene and a helicopter was called to fly the victim with second-degree burns to his back and shoulders to University Hospital's burn unit for treatment. The second victim, who was burned on the back and part of his head, was transported to Mountain West Regional Medical Center in Tooele.
