BYU GAMEDAY

Today's forecast: Sunny, 78 degrees

BYU (1-0 at Air Force (1-0)

Today, 2 p.m. Falcon Stadium

FieldTurf Colorado Springs

TV: Versus

Radio: 1160 AM, 102.7 FM

THE STAKES

For Air Force ... The Falcons are hoping to get off to a strong start in conference play, trying to prove they are a contender for a conference championship.

For BYU ... The Cougars enter their final season as members of the Mountain West Conference. A loss cripples their chances of claiming a league title.

THE TRENDS

For Air Force ... The Falcons have won 10 consecutive Mountain West Conference openers.

For BYU ... The Cougars have won six straight games over Air Force, dating back to 2004.

THE EDGE

Air Force will win if ... the Falcons can win the time-of-possession and field-position battles and force BYU quarterbacks Riley Nelson and Jake Heaps to turn the ball over.

BYU will win if ... the Cougars do what they've done the past six seasons — slow down the Falcons' option attack and score at least 30 points.

PLAYER TO WATCH

McKay Jacobson, BYU: Historically, the Cougars' tight ends give Air Force trouble. With inexperienced tight ends in the mix, the Cougars could rely more heavily on their receivers, like Jacobson, to make plays against Air Force's strong pass defense.

KEY MATCHUP

BYU offense vs. Air Force defense: Will BYU's two-headed quarterback system play efficiently, and avoid mistakes, against a stingy Falcon "D"?

INJURY REPORT

Air Force:Cornerback Reggie Rembert suffered a neck injury in last week's game. He saw limited, non-contact action in practice Wednesday, but his status is unknown.

BYU: Ross Apo dislocated his left index finger and will be out for about six weeks.

NEXT UP

Air Force travels to nationally ranked Oklahoma next Saturday, while BYU travels to nationally ranked Florida State.
