LAYTON — Police are investigating the deaths of two young children found unresponsive in their Layton home Wednesday night.
Police responded to a home at 2184 N. Snoqualmie Circle after receiving a call from the father of the children at 6:45 p.m. asking them to check on the welfare of the children. The father made the call from a neighbor's house, said Layton Police Lt. Quinn Moyes.
When police arrived, no one answered the door. Police entered the home and found a 7-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy unresponsive in a bedroom. When medical crews arrived, they confirmed the children were dead, Moyes said.
Moyes said police found the mother of the children inside the home and took her into custody for questioning. The father was later taken into custody without incident and was also being questioned. As of 11 p.m. no arrest had been made, Moyes said.
Police and crime scene investigators remained at the home late Wednesday along with representatives of the state Medical Examiner's Office.
Moyes said no other family members had been contacted by late Wednesday and declined to release names of the parents or the children.
"It's very tragic," Moyes said. "We hope to have more information in the morning."
Moyes said police had not been called to the home previously, and there appears to be no history of child abuse. He said neighbors who were questioned said they did not hear any arguing or other sounds indicating there was a problem at the home. Moyes said it appears the home did not have telephone service and speculated that was why the father called from a neighbor's home.
